INTRODUCTION This guide is not meant to be an HTML tutorial, although it does feature a few HTML tricks. I wrote this web design guide for those true web developers who use HTML, rather than fight one of those clumsy WYSIWYG editors. Even so, all of the examples shown in this tutorial can be applied with most WYSIWYG editors. This guide will not tell you how to create a web page, nor will it give you ideas or inspiration. The purpose of Doug's Web Design Guide is to show you the major do's and don'ts of web design by presenting examples and giving detailed explanations of what was done right or wrong in the each example shown. Let's face it, web design and development is an art, much like painting or drawing. Some people are good at it and some aren't. Such is life. All of the examples found within this tutorial are taken directly from the web, and condensed in order to protect copyrights as well as pride. After reading the information found herein, you will hopefully have a better understanding of the principles of layout and design on the web, as well as how to properly display and optimize graphics for maximum downloading efficiency. You will learn about fonts and text alignment, and how to maximize space without causing clutter.
